Our Story

A dream. A vision. A relentless committment to... Lunacy.

Four friends and an idea…

What can four guys do, when they get their friends and family together to support the idea of starting a little microbrewery tucked away in the back of an old print shop?  Who would possibly support an idea like that?  The very thought is… lunacy.

For Ed Gledhill, Mike Lees, Rick Lees, and Jay Macrina, the idea actually was (or rather became) Lunacy Brewing Company.  Launched in Magnolia, NJ in January 2013, the “little brewery that could” has thrived and grown, and in September 2017, Lunacy Brewing Company relocated to a larger space in Haddon Heights, NJ.

The brewery offers educational tastings that combine the owner’s love of craft beer with a friendly, social, casual gathering of people from all over and from all walks of life.  This is how beer and brewing was meant to be enjoyed.  Conversation, meeting new people, making new friends, and enjoying an atmosphere that’s more like hanging out at a friend’s house than sitting in a bar.  No sports playing on the TV.  No loud bands to talk over.  Just good beer, good people, and good times.

How It All Started

The idea for Lunacy Brewing Company was born in the summer of 2011. All four of us enjoy a good craft beer and during our journeys around the world, we have all tried many different brands and styles of beers.   And every once in a while you come across a beer that makes you say to yourself, “I wonder if I could create a beer I’d enjoy as much as this one.” Well one night, we all decided it was time to see what we could come up with, and the rest is history.

We started brewing in the garage, like most craft brewers, and we made some really good beers and we made some that, well, didn’t quite turn out the way we wanted them to. We soon realized that in order to perfect our beer, we would need a bigger space. We always knew we wanted to do more than just make brewing a hobby and we all feel very lucky to have built such a loyal following over the past few years.

The Story Continues…

We wanted to make sure that our move to a bigger space didn’t mean giving up what makes Lunacy special.  We wanted to make sure it still feels like going over to a friend’s house for a beer – a friend who’s moved into a bigger place with nicer stuff.  So far we think we’ve done a good job with that.  We’re just three minutes away from where we started, but we’ve gone from 1,000 sq.ft. of fun to 4,000 sq.ft. – room for even more friends to stop by!

And best of all, more space has let us expand from a 1 barrel system to a 15 barrel system.  More beer for everyone!  More varieties!  More Lunacy!  And we still have a “backyard” which everyone loves.  We even back up to a park now!  We promise to keep producing great beer for many years to come, thanks to the incredible support we’ve gotten from all of you.  From the whole team at Lunacy, thank you for being part of our story.
